The Kappa Psi Hop Team has been extremely active within the last three months or so. Performing in both competitive and community related venues, the team has used each engagement as an opportunity to bring positive exposure and accolades to the chapter as well as to uplift all who they came into contact with.
On July 28, 2007, the team performed at halftime of the D.C. Owt Team Charity basketball game, which was held at the YMCA on 3rd and Rhode Island Ave. The game was used as a fundraiser that would benefit numerous community organizations. In attendance were several philanthropists who were seeking to donate to the charitable causes that were at hand.
On August 15, 2007, the hop team also performed at “Light Up Washington”, which was a trade and business expo. Held at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, the expo drew thousands from far and near. Kappa Psi’s hop team was asked to perform as a part of the entertainment section of the three day long event. The brothers definitely represented the fraternity well and left thousands speechless as they gave onlookers a glimpse of the true Omega that dwells within the chapter.
On September 15, 2007, the brothers performed at The Lambda Gamma Gamma Boatride Weekend in Baltimore. On this date, Kappa Psi continued its reemergence as one the premiere chapters in the fraternity. The brothers showcased their superior athleticism, précised movements, and true Omega spirit as they fused old marches and chants with creative and innovative hops. “This show serves as a testament to their work ethic as a team. Kappa Psi is truly making an impact in the DC metropolitan area,” said a brother after viewing the show.
On September 22, 2007, the brothers competed in Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Annual Step-Off For Scholarships, which took place at the University of the District of Columbia. The show was sponsored by the Xi Omega Graduate chapter here in D.C. A portion of the proceeds were donated to the Xi Omega Scholarship Fund. The brothers debuted their rendition of the classic Greek epic, “300”. Though they placed second, the brothers of Kappa Psi were happy about the fact that they helped to give several inner-city youth the opportunity to matriculate at an institution of higher learning.
On September 29, 2007, the hop team competed in the P.G. Classic Step Show, which was sponsored by Adrian Carroll Entertainment. Even in the face of stiff competition and being constantly hated on, the brothers kept their composure.
The brothers executed several different acrobatic stunts which were designed to enhance both the show and theme. Despite their flawless execution, the brothers still wound up placing second. Even after placing second the Kappa Psi Hop team has remained vigilant in its pursuit of the #1 spot. “Our desire to be the best is infinite, and we won’t rest nor will our efforts wane even when we have achieved our goal to be the very best,” said an unnamed brother.
